The Iraqi ambassador stated that he already knows which Slovak ministries he should contact in order to foster relations between Slovakia and Iraq. Gašparovič also praised the recent setting-up of a Slovak-Iraqi Trade Chamber and an agreement on cooperation that was signed between the health ministries of the two countries.

The United States is interested in continuing good cooperation with Slovakia, the new US Ambassador to Slovakia, Theodore Sedgwick, said on the occasion of handing his credentials to President Gašparovič on August 18.

“The experience from our mutual cooperation in the military sphere in Iraq and Afghanistan confirms this,” said Sedgwick.

“Our opinions in the sphere of security policy and the struggle for peace in the world are also unambiguously close due to our membership in NATO,” said Gašparovič, adding that Slovakia and the US have close relations also thanks to the huge numbers of Slovak immigrants living in the US.

The Slovak president asked the new American ambassador to convey to US President Barack Obama his invitation to visit Slovakia. The American ambassador noted that apart from promoting the interests of his country he will also engage in defending the interests of Slovakia in the US.
