PARLIAMENTARY deputies will see their monthly salaries climb by Sk6,290 (€155) and the cabinet ministers by Sk9,396 (€230). The president will get Sk25,000 (€615) more than he had been earning before, the daily Pravda wrote.

After the wage hike, MPs will earn Sk43,390 (€1,070) plus a flat monthly compensation of Sk34,710 (€855), while the president will receive Sk173,000 (€4,260) plus Sk40,000 (€985) in flat compensations.

Analysts warned that in a time in which the state is making severe cuts to social benefits and rising prices, the public might view the increase as an immoral step.

"It is insensitive towards the people, and almost immoral. The constitutional representatives should adjust to the situation," said analyst Jan Baránek.
