SLOVAK President Ivan Gašparovič became a protector of the European Academy of Arts and Sciences (EASA) on April 24. Gašparovič thereby joined a select group of European heads of state who have promised to support science and art in their home countries. Among other EASA protectors are the presidents of Austria, Italy and Slovenia, along with Spanish King Juan Carlos I and Pope Benedict 16th.
