SLOVAK President Ivan Gašparovič believes that the next government to take power after the country's scheduled general elections in September 2006 will be forced to continue with the economic reforms launched by the current cabinet.
"No incoming government will cancel reforms. This is simply impossible," Gašparovič said in an interview with the SITA news agency on December 28.
The president also claimed that the 2006 parliamentary election campaign has already begun, and warned that election turnout could be very low, given the 10 to 20 percent participation recorded in the recent elections to Slovakia's regional parliaments.
