UPON the invitation of the Conference of Slovak Bishops, President Rudolf Schuster will attend a national pilgrimage to the Vatican, the daily SME wrote.

However, the ruling Christian Democrats and Hungarian Coalition Party refuse to join Schuster and worry that he might use the pilgrimage as part of his re-election campaign.

The two parties are also critical of the president for merging the referendum on early elections with the vote for president.

Christian Democratic deputy Pavol Minarik said that Schuster, who held high positions in the Communist party before the Velvet Revolution in 1989, does not have the moral right to lead a pilgrimage to the Vatican.
