PRESIDENT Ivan Gašparovič believes his pre-election call to the public to use their constitutional right to vote contributed to the nearly 55-percent turnout.
"I am happy so many people used this right, since pre-election estimates had indicated a significantly lower turnout," the SITA news wire quoted the president as saying.
According to Gašparovič, the turnout was nonetheless the lowest since the early 1990s because the current government was unpopular.
