PRESIDENT Andrej Kiska received the proposal to appoint criminal lawyer Lucia Kurilovská to lead the Police Academy and the presidential office said it will publish the date of her appointment after Kiska returns from vacation.
Kurilovská is the only candidate submitted by Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák to former president Ivan Gašparovič. Kurilovská, a professor at the Bratislava law faculty and advisor to Justice Minister Tomáš Borec, was named by Kaliňák to replace Václav Krajník, who was arrested amid allegations of corruption connected with accepting students to the academy. The top job at the academy has been vacant since June 2012, the Sme daily reported.
Gašparovič had objections to the nomination citing Kurilovská was at the time just assistant professsor at the law faculty. However, he was also said to have reservations against her, after she criticised his decision not to appoint Jozef Čentéš as general prosecutor.
