President Ivan Gašparovič will not dismiss Finance Minister Ivan Mikloš over problems with the new information system of the Financial Administration, the SITA newswire reported.
“I do not consider replacing the finance minister with another member of the government several days before elections to be a very good solution,” said Gašparovič, as quoted by SITA.
Gašparovič added that since Mikloš bears political responsibility for the present situation of the tax information system, he should deal with the existing problems.
The dismissal of Mikloš from his function was originally proposed by the opposition Smer party. On February 20 the chair of the party, Robert Fico, called on Gašparovič to withdraw Mikloš’s authorisation to manage the ministry, saying that by removing the head of the Financial Administration, Igor Krnáč, from his job, Mikloš had confirmed that the new tax software in use is dysfunctional and that “the Stone Age has returned to the Slovak tax authorities”, SITA reported.
