THE TOWN of Prešov, centre of the Šariš region in eastern Slovakia, has plans to take an active part in European Mobility Week between September 16 and 22.
“We want to mobilise Prešov inhabitants to leave their cars at home, at least for one day, and to go to work, school or to their leisure activities on foot, by bike, by in-line skates, or with city transport, for instance,” town council spokesperson Katarína Pirohová told TASR.
One event the city has organised – for Friday, September 18 – is a competition for innovative hand-made environmentally-friendly vehicles called “How to get into town differently”.
Everybody who takes part in the competition will receive an award, and the winner will get a special prize. “It is really worth searching for some older vehicles at grandma’s, in the lofts and attics, to paint, redecorate it and make it mobile. Fantasy should have no limits,” Adriana Compeľová of Prešov Town Office said. The basic condition is that every vehicle should be “ecological”. Vehicles will be registered on the pedestrian mall in front of the Ľudová Banka on September 18, at 17:00.
