INFLATION continues to decrease in Slovakia after falling 0.1 percent year-on-year in July. Compared to June 2014, the consumer prices also fell by 0.1 percent, while during the first seven months of the year they dropped by 0.1 percent compared to 2013, the Statistics Office (ŠÚ) informed on August 12.
An annual drop in prices was reported in food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1.9 percent; postal and telecommunication services by 1.5 percent; furnishings, household equipment and routine home maintenance by 1 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.6 percent; and transport by 0.5 percent.
On the other hand, prices rose in education by 3.6 percent; miscellaneous goods and services by 2.6 percent; alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 1.7 percent; clothing and footwear by 1.5 percent; hotels, cafés and restaurants by 1.1 percent; health by 1 percent; and recreation and culture by 0.4 percent.
Compared to June 2013, prices were lower in food and non-alcoholic beverages by 0.9 percent; clothing and footwear by 0.6 percent; furnishings, household equipment and routine home maintenance by 0.2 percent; and transport by 0.1 percent. They grew for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, recreation and culture by 0.3 percent each; education by 0.2 percent; and health, hotels, cafés and restaurants by 0.1 percent each. The prices remained the same in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, as well as postal and telecommunication services and miscellaneous goods and services, the ŠÚ informed.
