Prices in November were unchanged compared with last year

CONSUMER prices in November this year were at the same level as in November last year, reports the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic. Over the first eleven months, prices decreased by 0.1 percent. In a monthly comparison, consumer prices also fell by 0.1 percent, the SITA newswire reported on December 12.

In an annual comparison, prices of education grew by 2.7 percent, prices of miscellaneous goods and services by 1.9 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco and clothing and footwear equally by 1.7 percent, furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 1.4 percent, hotels, cafés and restaurants by 1.2 percent, recreation and culture by 0.7 percent and health care by 0.4 percent. Prices of transport fell by 2.9 percent, food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1.2 percent, postal and telecommunication services by 0.4 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.3 percent.

In monthly terms, prices fell in transport by 2.3 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco became cheaper by 0.4 percent, food and non-alcoholic beverages, recreation and culture, miscellaneous goods and services by 0.1 percent. Prices of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance fell by 0.9 percent, clothing and footwear by 0.7 percent, hotels, cafés and restaurants by 0.3 percent, according to SITA.

Prices remain at the level of the previous month in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels. Also, prices of health care, postal and telecommunications services and education did not change on the monthly basis.

Annual core inflation, which tracks consumer prices excluding regulated prices and administrative interventions in the area of taxation, reached 0.3 percent in November, while in October it was 0.2 percent. Net inflation, which unlike core inflation, nor does account for food prices, reached 0.7 percent year-on-year in November. In a monthly comparison, core inflation in November fell by 0.1 percent, while net inflation was zero.

Food prices themselves fell in November by 1.2 percent year-on-year and by 0.1 percent in monthly terms.
