The prices of the most frequently purchased goods and services fell by 0.1 percent in the period between January 11 and January 20, the Statistics Office announced on January 28.
This was mainly due to fruit prices falling by 2 percent and those of fuels falling by 1.9 percent. Conversely, the prices of fats and oils went up by 2.9 percent, while those of fish increased by 1.2 percent, the TASR newswire wrote.
The Statistics Office has been conducting consumer price surveys of 196 frequently purchased goods and services every ten days since August 2008. The aim has been to monitor price developments in connection with adoption of the euro. The surveys will continue to the end of June 2009. TASR
