The Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) election leader and future Prime Minister, Iveta Radičová, has appealed to the outgoing government to stop signing large contracts, the SITA newswire reported.
“To speak about various loans on one hand and endlessly sign senseless contracts worth billions on the other hand is simply unacceptable,” she said on Monday evening, June 28, at a news conference following a meeting of the coalition council.
Radičová said that the centre-right coalition will reassess all contracts signed after the election. She said that if it is possible they will be cancelled. She added that they are also going to reassess all contracts signed closely before the election, which she said involved huge expenditures worth billions which Slovakia cannot afford right now.
However, she explained that the centre-right coalition’s appeal to the outgoing government to stop its activities in this area does not include obligations Slovakia has towards the European Union. She explained that her call was inspired by Slovakia's current financial situation. Another reason, Radičová told the SITA newswire, is that contracts and wasting of public funds are mounting on a daily basis.
