The deputy chairman of the opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union, Ivan Mikloš, has said that the recent statements made by Economy Minister Ľubomír Jahnátek regarding corruption in arms deals with developing countries imply the involvement of the ruling party Smer and the prime minister in the arms trade.
"We are witnessing something that we can call the very intensive engagement of the prime minister, Smer and the government in arms trade,” said Mikloš on the TA3 news channel on March 25.
He said that out of the five businessmen that accompanied Fico to Israel, four are active in the defence industry.
"Which is a sector with a higher corruption rate," Mikloš added.
However, Smer MP Boris Zala said that Mikloš's arguments are absurd and that if they were taken seriously, the government would not be able to support any branch of economy as the opposition links them all to corruption.
