Prime Minister Robert Fico, speaking at a news conference on May 21, suggested that there is a possibility that the constitution could be amended to allow the Special Court, outlawed by a Constitutional Court ruling on May 20, to continue operating.
He proposed that it could be included within the system of courts as an extraordinary court. Another option he floated was to adopt a new constitutional law on the establishment of the Special Court. The prime minister added, as quoted by the SITA newswire, that he did not know what stance his partners in the ruling coalition would adopt, as he had not yet discussed any options with them.
He did not rule out the possibility of presenting a new bill to parliament under shortened legislative proceedings in order to resolve the situation as soon as possible. SITA, TASR
