PRISON guards in a Košice prison were found to have been humiliating several of the inmates they were responsible for.
The private TV channel Markiza aired a video that it received from an anonymous source, showing some of the prison guards during an exercise in October 2012. The guards were pushing the inmates, shouting at them, and forcing them to run along the corridors of the prison. They even kicked one of the inmates when forcing him to sit in a chair, the Markíza TV reported.
The Interior Ministry has been aware of these inappropriate exercises for a long time now and they have already started dealing with the case, Markíza reported.
“Immediately after we received the motion we filed a criminal complaint in the case of abusing the power of a public official,” Justice Ministry spokesperson Alexandra Donevová told Markíza, adding that two of the prison guards have been suspended from service and a disciplinary proceeding was launched against seven guards.
