Presently a pro-drug atmosphere rules Slovak schools, with marijuana present at every elementary, secondary and high school and heroin also increasingly available, said speakers at the Preventive Programs for the Third Millennium conference in Bratislava June 16.
According to Ivan Novotny, who manages a drug abuse clinic in Bratislava, one in four young people is positively inclined to drugs and is intentionally seeking drugs. Approximately the same number of youngsters has an evident reluctance towards drugs, he said.
The conference hosted 150 experts from centres of educational and psychological prevention and psychological advisory centres. One main goal of the conference was to search for ways to get parents more involved in their children's lives, and thus become more respected anti-drug voices.
