MP and former leader of the coalition Sieť party Radoslav Procházka has decided to give up his mandate and Sieť membership and return to his previous legal practice as of October 31, the SITA newswire reported.
His decision is valid and was not influenced by the result of the selection process for the post of an additional judge of the European Union General Court (EUGC), according to a statement by the party.
“I take this opportunity to thank citizens for all the votes that I received from them and former colleagues for their help and support,” Procházka wrote in the statement, as quoted by SITA.
The current chair of the party, Roman Brecely respects Procházka’s decision, thanks him for his cooperation and wishes him all the best in his private and professional life. Although the Sieť party sees the situation as an opportunity to start a new phase, it plans to continue to promote the programme with which it has addressed its voters so far.
“Sieť will promote constructive debate and effective solutions as a party which supports the idea of a strong society and a simple state,” said Brecely, as cited by SITA.
Procházka will be replaced in parliament by Zuzana Zimenová who has never been a member of Sieť. Shortly after the elections she claimed that if she got into parliament, she would not support the ruling coalition composed of the parties Smer-SD, the Slovak National Party (SNS), Most-Híd and Sieť, but later she became an expert for education at the education ministry. Brecely plans to meet with Zimenová on Wednesday, November 2, SITA wrote.
The Slovak government approved Procházka’s candidacy for the post of judge of the EUGC on September 28 after he was nominated by the Judicial Council with the required minimum of ten votes out of a total of 17.
