The opposition Christian-Democratic Movement (KDH) is strongly protesting a Health Ministry plan to cancel medical professionals' right to refuse to perform services for reasons of conscience, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote on August 28.
According to ministry spokesperson Silvia Balázsiková, the proposal says that hospitals will have to say clearly whether they will perform abortions, artificial fertilization and sterilization. Hospitals whose physicians do not want to perform these services will have to ask the county to be deleted from the list of hospitals that offer those services.
