THE FORMER rector of the Police Corps Academy in Bratislava, Václav Krajník, will stand trial, accused of accepting a €5,000 bribe. A prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor’s Office filed a lawsuit against him on December 4.
“He is alleged to have committed the crime by ordering an academy employee, as his superior, to favour at least 29 applicants for the study at the Police Academy in a competition, while allegedly taking a bribe of €5,000 for accepting at least two of them,” Special Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Jana Tökölyová told the TASR newswire.
She added that the lawsuit has been filed for the continued crime of accepting a bribe and the attempted misdemeanour of abusing the power of a public official. TASR failed to address the accused Krajník for comment.
In July 2012, Krajník was dismissed from the school after it was discovered that 29 applicants were admitted to the academy that year by way of falsifying their entrance examinations. Three university representatives, including former rector Krajník, are facing criminal prosecution over the affair.
Currently, Štefan Kočan has been authorised to lead the academy. The candidate for the rector post selected by Interior Minister Roberta Kaliňák is criminal law expert Lucia Kurilovská, TASR wrote. However, information from the ministry hints that the minster has not yet sent a proposal for her appointment to President Ivan Gašparovič.
