Lipšic could face a sentence of two to five years in prison if found guilty of unlawful killing, though he could receive a suspended sentence, Deputy Bratislava Regional Prosecutor Oliver Janíček told the TASR newswire on July 19. The former MP hit a 72-year-old pedestrian on a Vajnorská Street crosswalk in Bratislava on September 19, 2016. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital but later died of injuries, the Sme daily wrote.

Prosecutors had earlier agreed to a plea bargain proposed by Lipšic, but it was rejected by the General Prosecutor’s Office, who stated that the bargain could not be concluded because Lipšic had not pleaded guilty.
