The Office of the Prosecutor General has requested that the Constitutional Court suspend the effectiveness of the law on minimum wages, since it considers it to be at odds with the constitution, as well as the European Convention on Human Rights. It has requested the abolition of an amendment passed by the previous government based on which hospital nurses were supposed to receive higher salaries as of April 2012, the Sme daily reported.
The prosecutor’s office has questioned the basis of the amendment, explaining that in terms of protection of the constitutionality the state, the court should examine whether the conditions exist to allow the law to be effective. MPs have criticised the fact that the Health Ministry presented the changes without ensuring enough money to pay for the salary increases, Sme wrote.
