Prosecutor General Dobroslav Trnka on Wednesday, December 8, vehemently rejected Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic's accusations that he was lying about a female prosecutor looking into a tape recording that allegedly features former Robert Fico discussing efforts to personally secure financing for the Smer party before the 2002 general election, the TASR newswire reported.
"I'm not a liar! Somebody must have gone crazy, but it's not me," Trnka told the TASR newswire in a reaction to Lipšic's statement that Trnka had lied in his press conference earlier Wednesday when he said the ministry put pressure on the investigator dealing with the case.
"Nobody was pressuring the investigator," Lipšic told journalists – at the same time confirming information conveyed by Trnka earlier in the day that the investigator was a woman.
Lipšic said he only met her once, in September, when he gave testimony in the case – acting as an initiator. According to Trnka, the investigator actually had decided to dismiss the case as it proved to be “a complete and utter lie”.
"Now, ask Ms. Investigator if Mr. Lipšic or Mr. (Police Corps President Jaroslav) Spišiak paid her a visit," Trnka stated to reporters, without revealing her name.
