PSA Peugeot Citroen’s plant in Trnava is to raise its daily production from 850 to 900 cars as of June due to increased demand for small cars around Europe, PSA Peugeot Citroen Slovakia communications director Peter Švec said on Tuesday, May 12.
Švec referred to car-scrapping contributions introduced in several European countries as the main stimulus for the hike in demand, which has pushed production back to pre-crisis levels. “The Peugeot 207 and C3 Picasso models are taking full advantage of this,” Švec said.
“The expectations of the markets are higher than our current production, so we had to extend working time,” said Švec, in comments to the TASR newswire. He added that following an agreement with the trade unions, the afternoon shift is to be extended by an hour between June 1 and 24. Production of the Citroen C3 was officially launched on March 26, with plans to make 110,000 cars yearly. The Trnava plant is the only production site for the model. TASR
