Forty-five towns and villages in Slovakia will see at least 30 percent cuts in the annual electricity consumption by their public lighting systems following their modernization that will be funded through a grant provided by Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, the SITA newswire wrote.
A total of 6,232 city lights will be replaced or upgraded within the grant. The majority of towns and villages - ten of them - are from Banská Bystrica Region, nine towns and villages are from Trenčín Region and Nitra Region, respectively. On the other hand, only one village is from Prešov Region. The total sum of over €3.15 million distributed to individual projects is from the block grant of the European Economic Area and Slovakia's state budget.
The Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency (SIEA) is in charge of implementation of the project. SIEA informed that the grant covered 90 percent of the eligible costs of the projects. One project could receive €150,000 at most.
The Ambassador of Norway to Slovakia, Brit Lovseth, will be informed about how the funds are used during her visit to the village of Zelenec in the Trnava district, and Malinovo in the Senec district, on Monday, August 3. In both villages, a major portion of the lighting system has already been modernised, SITA wrote. SITA
