Pupils put together improvement ideas

A SUBSIDY programme called Rajská Rajecká Lesná (Paradisal Rajecká Lesná) gave the pupils of the local elementary school a chance to develop and implement unusual ideas to improve the life of both students and local citizens. A clubroom for eighth-graders within the school’s interior and a classroom for third-graders in the open air on the school’s property, which can also be used as a relaxation area for mothers with children and visitors to the village, were chosen as the winning projects.

“The children’s ideas were amazing, and I was very pleased with their interest in participating in projects beneficial to our school and village. If the community also gets involved, we plan to improve the technical state of our sports area in spring, which is part of the school complex but accessible to local citizens,” Rajecká Lesná's mayor, Bohuslav Pekný, told the TASR newswire.

Pupils made a three-dimensional model of the proposed clubroom and playground which formed part of the presentations, as did a model of safety lockers, a design for new school uniforms, poems written by the children about the project, and a puppet show.
