A recent poll by the Focus agency suggests that former prime minister Iveta Radičová could win the next presidential election, due in 2014, the Plus Jeden Deň (PJD) daily reported. However, Radičová has said several times she will not run for the post. Radičová lost to Ivan Gašparovič in the run-off for the 2009 presidential election, when she won 44.47 percent of the vote. In the Focus poll Radičová was backed by 32.7 percent of respondent, outscoring current Prime Minister Robert Fico, who received 28.4 percent.
The founder of the charity organisation Dobrý anjel / Good Angel, Andrej Kiska, had a surprisingly strong showing in the poll, attracting 13.9-percent support. It was the first survey in which Kiska has featured; it was reported only last month that he was considering a run for the presidency.
According to the poll, Kiska would lead former Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) leaders Pavol Hrušovský (7.6 percent) and Ján Čarnogurský (6.7 percent), and social analyst and former diplomat Martin Bútora (4 percent).
