Prime Minister Iveta Radičová has suggested that she personally insisted on the resignation of Tax Directorate head Miroslav Mikulčík as the only way to rid the government of what she called "a shadow of non-transparency" which had emerged following a property leasing deal agreed by Mikulčík. "This is why I took certain action this [Wednesday] morning" she commented, shortly after Mikulčík stepped down from his post on April 20.
When pressed as to whether she had threatened to resign, she said, as reported by the TASR newswire: "I made it clear that I will not head a government with such a shadow cast over it. This government has pledged to be transparent, so it was unacceptable for me to proceed in this manner."
Radičová made the comments upon arriving late at a cabinet session, three hours of which had been held in her absence. She confirmed that she had missed part of the session due to Mikulčík's continued tenure in his post.
