PRIME Minister Iveta Radičová has filed a legal complaint against Robert Fico, the chairman of Smer party and a deputy speaker of parliament, alleging that her personal rights were violated by the former prime minister, the press department of the Government Office announced.
Radičová is demanding an apology for untrue and offensive statement she claims Fico made regarding her purported influence on a decision by Jozef Čentéš to withdraw his candidacy for the General Prosecutor’s post in May. At that time Čentéš said it was his personal decision because the upcoming vote had become linked to allegations that MPs were being blackmailed and bribed.
The TASR newswire wrote that Fico accused Čentéš of being influenced by Radičová, saying he was forced to cite what Fico termed quite ‘ridiculous reasons’.
Radičová’s complaint also seeks court review of Fico’s accusations that the prime minister was involved in alleged corruption linked with the construction of a biathlon stadium in Osrblie, the Government Office stated.
New information about alleged kickbacks paid in connection with construction of the Osrblie stadium has been reported by the media. Martin Novotný, one of those accused of corruption and a former advisor to Radičová, allegedly received information about a planned government subsidy for construction of the stadium directly from the Government Office, the Sme daily reported.
Novotný had organised an audience for biathletes with Radičová at which time she promised government help in construction of the stadium, Sme reported.
Novotný’s lawyer, Dušan Ivan, denied that his client had influenced anyone in connection with arrangement of a subsidy.
