Re: Bush plans five day Europe visit, Volume 10, Number 49, December 20, 2004 - January 9, 2005
Slovaks will unfortunately learn too late that the pension investment scheme offered to them is similar to the infamous scheme that we had in the UK, introduced by Maggie Thatcher, which only enabled big business to rob investors of their savings for pensions. I can vouch for that first hand.
Some people in Slovakia will benefit from the "flat tax", or, rather, a flat tax on food and other necessities and a zero tax on dividends, but the ordinary citizen of Slovakia will suffer. Look at what is already being proposed for them on health.
Now Slovakia is in the EU, Slovak policies affect all of us in the EU. Look how Slovakia tried to absolve itself of responsibility of care for its Roma, trying to get them to migrate to other states within the EU by reducing their benefits, and by simply taking away employment from other EU countries by undercutting on corporate tax.
Slovak policies are designed for the benefit of large corporations, many of which are based in the US, not for the Slovak or EU citizen.
