When something like this happens, to me personally or on a much larger scale as on this occasion, I am quite prepared to accept condolences, commiserations, messages of support or sympathy, at face value.
I have regularly been among those who readily disapprove of many actions by politicians, but I'm still prepared to believe that there's enough basic decency in the vast majority of them to be genuinely disgusted, dismayed and horrified by acts of terror.
