RE: Many Slovaks work abroad, Aug 29 - Sept 4, 2005, Vol 11, No 33
I don't agree with your statement that incomes in Slovakia are "lower than during Communist times". The times were totally different. There were fewer choices (and less freedom) so your money was okay. Even now, you can get a job and live on say Sk10,000 (€258) a month in Slovakia. Only a lot of people don't want to live on it as it is impossible to have your own place (in Bratislava) for that kind of money, never mind everything else that a normal young person needs - clothes, CDs, fun. On the other hand, many people are forced to live on this kind of money. They share a flat - sometimes rooms! - with other people. This I find unacceptable.
Until there are decent salaries in Slovakia the brain drain won't stop. When I go back to Slovakia now I have hardly any friends left there.
