RE: Too many lawyers in Slovakia, Volume 12, Number 07, February 20 - February 26, 2006
I came to study law here in the UK in hopes of making a contribution in the field of immigration law. This vision to help my people carried me through the immense difficulty of law school and further academic studies. However, since Slovakia joined the EU, there is no longer a need for Slovak-speaking immigration lawyers. Only one career path really remains for young Slovak lawyers (both at home and in the UK) now - the expansion of trade and industry, which will provide work for young, fresh legal brains.
Trade will also find Slovakia - and therefore I would encourage young lawyers to keep studying the subject. We often read about corruption in the Slovak judicial system and, if for not anything else, then definitely because young lawyers should try to offer their best assets to boost and improve the Slovak legal system!
