Re: Storms topple Tatras, By Martina Jurinová, Volume 10, Number 47, December 6-12
I was in the then "Czechoslovakia" in 1986 when I was 15 years old. My greatest memory of the trip is spending the day doing an approximately 10-kilometre hike to one of the lower peaks, Ostrva, eating lunch by a mountain lake, and returning to the hotel exhausted but exhilarated after seeing many chamois goats.
I feel like crying when I think of the destruction. Nature did to those mountains what a world war didn't. If there is some type of legitimate charity to help pay for tree saplings or something, I'd love to hear about it.
