Re: "Leaving Slovakia: The things unsaid", By Tom Nicholson, Letter from the editor, Vol. 8 No. 38, Oct 7 to Oct 13

Dear Sir,

It was with deep regret that I read in today's Spectator that you are leaving us.

Like you, I am a North American (California), who came here to teach English and chose to stay. Like you, I thank God every day for this gift of Slovakia.

The Slovak Spectator has always been my faithful and trustworthy beacon during my eight years here. Thank you for what you have made The Spectator stand for: fearless honesty! You were not always correct, but you were always honest. Students of mine to whom I have given gift subscriptions beg for renewals, saying that they have learned more about their country through The Spectator than through any other media.

To parallel your brother's remark, we were lucky to have you here from the birth of our nation. You are a real hero, Mr. Nicholson! God go with you in your new adventure.

Sincerely,

Ted Becker
