The only taxpayer subsidizing education is the person who works and never has any children.
Tuition portability is just what is needed to fix America's primary and secondary schools. Public schools that are unable to match private schools in quality of education should be allowed to fail for the sake of their students. If a business delivers poor service or a poor product, we scarcely shed a tear if it fails, yet we are supposed to keep failing schools open so that they can continue to damage children.
In the US, parochial schools often beat their public school counterparts by delivering a significantly better education in the same neighbourhoods and for a fraction of the cost per pupil. In the Province of Ontario in Canada there is a slight twist to this tuition portability scheme, where taxpayers can choose whether to have the education portion of their property taxes go to the public school system or the separate school system, which is the protestant term for "Catholic School" system.
