The musical analogy is perfect for our post-election orchestra. Expect a cacophony of disjointed styles, notes and rhythm.
Try to put in the same room an um-pa-pah band, with Mozart, Rolling Stones, Shakira and the Violent Femmes. Actually, that is the music we listened to for the last four years and our ears may be sufficiently acclimated.
In that configuration the role of the conductor is irrelevant. Not even the musicians are paying attention to him.
