Re: "Pub team" chugs on in Champions League, By Tom Nicholshon, November 7-13, 2005
I travel to Slovakia six or seven times a year. Little did I know that travelling on November 1 would coincide with the Rangers game in Bratislava. After gaining the necessary permission [from my wife], a friend arranged a ticket and accommodation.
When we visited the main square outside the national theatre at 19:45, my friend could not believe her eyes and neither could I. What a mess! I told her that this was normal for Scottish and English football fans too.
Although the home team gave a very good account of themselves, the atmosphere in the stadium was eerily quiet - in fact the Spartak Trnava fans at the game in Nitra on Saturday gave more atmosphere to the stadium - but I am aware that they have had more practice with their well-orchestrated chanting.
Artmedia needs someone with a BIG drum and a sense of rhythm and maybe some printed sheets to chant from. There is time to practise before the game against Porto, which I may attend. Who knows, the "pub team" may make it to the knockout stages. I hope so.
