A Slovak government with Fico as PM and Mečiar as President, the most likely scenario after 2002, has less than zero chance of receiving an invitation to join NATO, participate in the EU, or see any rise in foreign investments ["NATO membership: The song remains the same", Editorial, Vol. 7 No. 36, September 24-30]. This is the sad fact of the matter.
Elderly Slovak voters will have pushed themselves again to the backwater of the second world, and the losers will again be young Slovaks who will see their opportunities pop and disappear like the soap bubbles blown out of the mouths of petty demagogues like Fico and Mečiar.
