Re: Politicians slip through property loophole, Flash News, April 1, 2005

Yet another typical example of the passivity of the Slovak people towards the political elite. Most other European countries would have some kind of control over politicians having to declare their property and capital, but not Slovakia.

This may be interestingly compared to the scandal over a little recent illicit earning by the Czech Prime Minister, and the subsequent uproar created, while in Slovakia, for example, Mečiar has yet to justify his Sk41 million (€1 million) villa.

As long as this country and its people remain indifferent to this and are unable to protest together with solidarity, this country will remain in a quagmire of clientelism and corruption despite being a member of the EU.
