It is true that people with a higher salary pay more tax under the flat tax system than those with a lower salary, but the system is more weighted against the poor as they have to use a higher proportion of their income for purchasing necessities. It is a retrogressive tax.

With a zero tax rate on dividends and the tax on inheritance abolished, Slovakia seems set on a relentless path of increasing the gap between the rich and the poor in the country.

If other EU states introduced a similar tax system as in Slovakia, that gulf would be further enhanced throughout the EU with none of the advantages currently enjoyed by Slovakia over its EU companions.
