Smer accuses Barroso of political interference, Volume 12, Number 15, April 17- April 23, 2006
Mr Barroso obtained a law degree from the University of Lisbon and a doctorate in Economic And Social Sciences from Geneva University. He started his political carreer at the PCTP (Communist Party Of The Portugese Worker), but is today a Social Democrat (right of centre). There is, of course, much more to be said about him, but it is unlikely that he wishes to interfere with the electoral process of an EU member country. He is carrying out his job as EU Commissioner, as I see it, to the best of his ability. He patted Slovakia's ruling government on the back for having carried out EU economic policy just the same as he chided the German government (former and current) for not adhering to the Maastricht Treaty (Germany's federal deficit was and is over the 3 percent mark).
To say that the current Slovak government is reforming without sufficient consideration of the hardships involved would have been a reasonable difference of opinion, but accusing Mr Barroso of political interference is just plain silly!
