I'm bilingual by birth, born in Slovakia to Hungarian parents in the South. My view is that it doesn't really matter if the new Slovak diplomat to Hungary speaks Hungarian or not (obviously it would be an advantage); the main thing is that he's a good politician (I don't know of a lot of those in Slovakia). Translators are always at hand at meetings, conferences, etc, anyway.
