Here in the UK we have an increasingly serious alcohol problem, among young people in particular. Whilst I am aware of the Slovaks' propensity for consuming alcohol, I am not familiar with whether this is considered a problem or not. Not only is there the personal health issue of course - with many more deaths among the younger part of the population than there have ever been before - but the effect of alcohol upon traffic accident figures, including deaths, has become a source of worry. Also, there is a direct correlation between drinking and antisocial behaviour. There is a school of thought now, to which I subscribe, that the cumulative effect, upon others as well as upon the individual, of alcohol is more of a cause for concern than smoking which, largely, affects only the consumer. Is this issue on the agenda in any way in Slovakia?
