Re: Goodbye ailments: Slovak spas possess the power of healing, Volume 11, Number 18, May 9 - May 15, 2005

Just why do "Slovak spas possess the power of healing"? I'd like to know. It seems to me that spas are more a cultural phenomenon rather than based on science, with a particular appeal to people of central European origin.

They may well be pleasant places to relax and rid yourself of stress, which enhances your general well-being, but I wonder how much the relaxation is responsible for spas reputation for healing, rather than the waters themselves?

Modern Brits seem to be rather sceptical on the whole concept.

There may be qualified practitioners available at the spas, and that is useful to a patient.

But I would like to see more scientific evidence of the benefits of the spa springs before I dispel my scepticism.
