THE BRATISLAVA construction authority (SÚ) issued a record fine for an illegal construction project in the city's Old Town district.
The SÚ fined the Austrian Sasanka company Sk3.4 million (€90,670) for starting to build a multifunctional building on Fazuľová street last year without a building permit.
"We have never imposed such a high fine in the history of our office," Stanislav Jurikovič from the Old Town municipal office told the SME daily.
The Austrian construction firm was fined Sk400,000 (€10,670) for having started digging without notifying the authorities and Sk3 million (€80,000) for not having a permit for the construction project.
Despite the fine, the project, which is close to the historical Blumentál Church building, has already been legalized. Two weeks ago, the SÚ has issued a retroactive construction permit for the new building, which Sasanka reduced to a planned 3 storeys from the original 12.
