Record number of bankruptcies announced in Q1 2012

The highest number of bankruptcies in a single quarter for the past six years was registered in the first three months of 2012, the firm Slovak Credit Bureau (SCB) announced on Tuesday, May 29. SCB operates the Banking and Non-Banking Register in Slovakia.

"The analysis included business entities and individuals, i.e. self-employed," the SCB stated, as quoted by the TASR newswire. A total of 123 bankruptcies was announced in Slovakia in the first quarter, 10.81 percent more than during the same period a year earlier. Most of them were announced in wholesale, retail, automobile and motorcycle maintenance, the construction sector and industrial production. In terms of the highest-risk businesses in the bankruptcy statistics, water supplies, sewage treatment and garbage disposal services were highlighted in SCB’s analysis.
