Regional councillor-elect gives up post

JOZEF Choluj, a councillor-elect for the Žilina higher territorial unit's regional parliament, gave up his post following a bribery affair, the Pravda daily reported.

The Slovak cabinet also recalled Choluj from his post as head of the regional transportation and roads authority in Žilina.

Choluj was arrested on November 28 after accepting an Sk10,000 (€264) bribe. His party, the ruling Slovak Democratic and Christian Union, suspended his membership instantly.

Choluj faces three to eight years in jail if convicted.
