The higher-instance, Regional Court in Žilina reduced the original lower-instance Čadca District Court verdict for Ján Slota. He is not allowed to drive for 12 months.
The former chairman of Slovak National Party (SNS), Slota got a fine of €5,000 and a ban on driving for 16 months for the misdemeanour of endangering under the influence of addictive substance. Slota was caught drunk-driving on May 9, 2013, ignored the attempts of police to stop him and refused to undergo breathalyser test.
The regional court decreased the fine in €2,000 and the ban on driving by four months. The verdict is effective and cannot be appealed.
“The Regional Court in Žilina abolished the verdict in its part stipulating the sentence and bestowed on the defendant a financial punishment of €3,000 and also stipulated an alternate sentence of three months [if the fine is not paid, ed. note] and a ban on driving for 12 months,” spokesperson of the Regional Court in Žilina Anna Dudová Záborská informed the TASR newswire, adding that the verdict cannot be appealed.
