Slovakia could receive 1.7 billion euros in regional aid during its first three years as a European Union member, said the European Commission’s director of regional policy, Guy Crauser. Speaking with Slovakia’s chief EU negotiator, Ján Figeľ, in Brussels on April 23, Crauser said much of the money would go towards environmental and transport programmes, but warned Slovakia would have to improve the quality of its projects in order to receive all the money.
